We’re not ones to often boast about being proud of any of our work, but this is one film I’ll always be proud of, personally. It’s all in the editing. And we were lucky in the capturing, too. Here is a rare situation where I wasn’t lucky enough to meet Shannon + Michael before their wedding, so on the day of their wedding, we showed up to their quaint cottages at East Hampton Point, not knowing their true personalities or how they interacted with one another. Here’s a film where you would have no idea of the craziness that went on in the background – ripped dresses, delayed ceremonies, no transportation for the bride + groom…! – because what was happening in the foreground and in the little, intimate moments in-between was much bigger and grander than most weddings we experience. Shannon + Michael have this wonderfully tight, goofy bond that is so obvious the moment you’re around the both of them. Things change when they’re together. They light up, they let go, and we were right there to capture it all. Their story was simple enough – they met on a rootop at a Manhattan party that Shannon was waitressing – but what made it the most magical were the unspoken moments that happened while their story was being shared during their ceremony. Pure romance. I have a certain fondness for quirkiness, albeit sometimes weirdness or oddness or just plain old strangeness. Snorting laughs, awkward pauses, bizarre noises. These are my favorite characteristics in people because they are the most interesting and, to me, what make people the most beautiful. Shannon is an incredible beauty. She’s got that unmistakable Jackie-O, timeless look that will make any head turn. But what made Shannon the most beautiful and captivating was how silly and, admittedly “weird” she considered herself to be. It was so refreshing to capture the pure love and true connection that Shannon and Michael have and for this reason, their film is one of my personal favorites of all time. Weird. Timeless. Passionate. Romance.
