Erica + Albert // Peabody Essex Museum Wedding (Salem, MA)

November 10, 2013

This wedding is a culmination of so many things I adore: autumn, New England, inspiring museums, historical towns, a personal ceremony, hilarious dancing, live music and one adorable, humble, intelligent couple. Erica + Albert’s autumn, Peabody Essex Museum wedding will forever be one I’ll never forget for all of the reasons above and much more. I have a huge place in my heart for New England, especially Massachusetts (because I have so much family there and spent a few years of college in Boston, too). So, when Erica + Albert contacted us about capturing their intimate wedding celebration, I was so ecstatic to make it happen.

If you’ve never been to New England in the fall, you’re truly missing out. Not only were we in New England in September, but if you know anything about Salem, MA, you know it’s the quintessential fall town… or Halloween town, if we must be so specific. At any given time of the year, the historic streets of Salem are flooded with spooky characters… witches, vampires, werewolves, oh my… so it was no surprise that just outside the truly stunning and modern Peabody Essex Museum stood flocks of tourists and the town’s quirky characters. It was quite a melting pot of people and imagery to take in. Because Erica + Albert’s wedding day was a celebration of different cultures and adventures, their setting and surroundings couldn’t have been any more perfect.

The two met in their freshman year at Dartmouth in Chinese 1. On their wedding day, their shared Chinese backgrounds were represented in the various Asian themed rooms and art housed in the museum. At sunset, surrounded by ancient artifacts and figureheads, they married in the East India Marine Hall, which boasts historic landmark status. Over cocktail hour, the couple held their own “exhibit”, showcasing different moments and memories in their life together and at the reception, their first dance broke out into a flash mob with the help of their wedding party and families. Erica + Albert’s wedding instilled in us a love for museum weddings and an even deeper appreciation for New England in fall.
