The Rock n’ Strykers // General Potter Farm Wedding Film (State College, PA)

April 30, 2013

I am forever grateful for couples who march to the beat of their own drum. Enter Missy + Mike.

Maybe it was partially because Missy found us on one of our favorite wedding blogs, Bridal Musings, or maybe it was because Missy + Mike were currently living in one of my very favorite towns in all of the United States (White River Junction, VT), but instantly, I was in love with these two. As it turned out, those tiny but awesome details were just the icing on the cake. The real amazingness behind Missy + Mike was their vision for their wedding day — and their wedding film.

I’m all for individuality (which is a big reason why we have custom packages), so when Missy + Mike approached us with the concept of having a documentary wedding film, we were 100% on board, and stoked. Documentaries call for interviews and not everyone is an interview kind of person… and not everyone, especially, would be an interview kind of person the morning of their wedding! But, again, Missy + Mike aren’t a typical couple. The morning of their General Potter Farm wedding, after oms and downward dogs in Missy’s lead yoga session, the couple sat down in separate sessions with us and let us capture their stories directly into camera. Right afterward? The two got dressed, in their friends house, just a room apart (no need for grand surprises, and I think that’s awesome). Shortly after, family and friends cozied together in a circle of seats as Missy + Mike processed in together and married themselves – with everyone present as witnesses – in a personal, Quaker style ceremony. In lieu of a traditional cocktail hour, Missy + Mike brought in a raptor show – or for those of us who immediately think of dinosaurs (whoops), an awesome display of feathered friends (ie: barn owls!) – as a way to share their conservationist roots with all present. Late in the evening, Missy + Mike shared in a few traditional things – a sweet first dance and cake cutting – and we snapped a photo or two in their photobooth by our friends, Wink. It was a wedding we’ll never forget and the result is a film unlike anything we’ve done before. Enjoy.
