This is a wedding I will truly never forget. It was chance that Rachel & Daniel met (on an airplane) and it was chance that we were lucky enough to capture this incredible wedding story. Just shy of a month before their October 2011 wedding, Rachel reached out to us about capturing their upstate New York wedding. While we typically have a long booking process, where we get to know as much about the couple and their story as possible, Rachel’s quick booking didn’t leave us with much time to get to know her and Daniel, or their story, but we had an inkling, given their diverse cultural backgrounds and incredible wedding location (Shadow Lawn), that this would be a good one… and what an understatement that turned out to be. As a filmmaker, highly invested in storytelling, I am constantly searching for emotional connections in everything we capture – in sound, in action, in setting. From the moment Miranda & I arrived in High Falls, as vibrant leaves blew around us, a calm washed over us. (For a wedding day, that’s a rare and beautiful thing.) This calm set the stage for the entire day and the events that unfolded. Rachel & Daniel exchanged a most intimate, emotionally honest first that paralleled the stories and vows shared during their ceremony and the personal toasts given later that evening in the warmly lit barn. The amount of sheer magic (really) in this story makes Rachel & Daniel’s film one of my personal favorites of all time. It’s the real magic that comes from God who so strategically placed two people from far away cities next to each other on an airplane because they are soulmates destined to be together for the rest of their lives. And that kind of magic is tough to beat.
