Let’s just start with this question: How many people do you know who got hitched on Leap Day? None? Same here, until Adriene & Kyle, that is. I’m not even sure that it gets much cooler for a wedding than to hold it on a date that only actually exists once every four years. Every stranger we kept bumping into throughout Adriene & Kyle’s wedding day (because, after all, it was on a Wednesday, during the middle of the day, in the center of a booming metropolis), kept saying to the pair, “Wow. You’re getting married TODAY? That is amazing. You only have to celebrate your anniversary once every few years. Why didn’t I think of that?!” So hilarious and so awesome, and yet, that is exactly the type of people Adriene & Kyle are.
A year or so before their wedding, I was lucky enough to stumble upon Sullivan Owen’s gorgeous work via the internet and proceeded to reach out to say, “Hey girl, your work is stunning! Can we team up?” And for a solid year, Sullivan and her crew helped create beautiful florals for our promotional shoots for a little wedding show we did called borrowed. So, this is how I met Adriene. Adriene is florist on Sullivan’s team, and when Adriene booked our buds Jill & Ryan to shoot their wedding photos, Sullivan thought it would be an awesome gift for her dear employee to hire us to shoot their wedding film. As you can see, this wedding was incredibly special for me, not only because of the amazing personal connections I had with the bride and her photogs but also because it was one of those once in a lifetime types of weddings. And I didn’t even yet mention Adriene and Kyle hosted their ceremony at literally one of my favorite man-made spaces of all time….! ALL TIME! (The Magic Gardens) Ever since I saw the doc, In A Dream, I have been insanely captivated by Isaiah Zagar and all he does. So much so that when I arrived at his incredible Magic Gardens the day of the wedding, I saw him walking down the street, and waved nervously like a school girl with a crush. (This man is in his 70s.) But I digress. This wedding was pure awesome. The definition of it. And I’m so proud to have captured it.
